Editors note – Motorola appear to be turning out radios like they are candy as of late, the digital revolution has really given Motorola a new market and they are, as usual, pushing the boundaries of this 2 way radio marketplace. This recent radio the Dp 2400, is full fat digital and having tried it for a few weeks it is very similar size to numerous other of the present walkie talkies, but having a new connection type. The form is very like other existing two way radios, but we believe the purchase price will make an enormous difference to small organisations and individuals, anyway here’s a extremely rare appraisal of the radio.
A 2 way radio has to be able to work quickly and efficiently. They have to be simple to use, strongly made and multi-faceted enough to appeal to many different people. Fortunately, Motorola are very, very good at fulfilling these criteria. So, with that in mind, we put the Motorola dp2400 through its paces.
THE SPECS
The clarity of digital audio is indisputable. But when you continue to prefer analogue, then do not despair. The DP 2400 is totally at ease handling both analogue and digital frequencies.
But there’s a lot more it can do besides that.
The Motorola dp2400 can even use its ‘IP Site Connect’ function to increase the capability of the radio via the Internet. Furthermore, the ‘capacity plus’ function can use just one-site trunking system to allow over a thousand voice or data transfer-users devoid of adding any new frequencies. It can even use an (optional) ‘linked capacity plus’ feature (a multi-site version of the ‘capacity plus’ function) that works in tandem using the IP functionality to ensure even broader fields of communication over larger areas.
There’s even an enhanced security function.
The Motorola DP 2400 can be purchased in both VHF and UHF forms.
THE PRICE
It is a reasonable, yet high spec, device. With the release of the Motorola dp3400, we are able to reasonably expect the purchase price to drop a bit more also soon, but probably not by an incredible amount, as both models do seems to specialize in slightly different niches’.
Overall, it does appear to be Motorola are offering a fantastic radio-based product for your money, yet again.
THE PERFORMANCE
The design is hardy and functional; this would be the kind of radio a security guard or professional soldier might use. Its tough, rectangle edged and no-nonsense, however it still looks modern and specialist. Over this, the Dp2400’s ease of use makes the simplicity of the design a perfect marriage of model and operation.
Like the majority of Motorola’s designs, the DP 2400 is a robust little doohickey. The bodywork is so tightly sealed, in fact, that it’s almost completely dust and sand proof and has a water protection rating of IP55 (that means feel free to use it while in the rain, but you almost certainly can’t take it snorkelling).
The audio performance of this Dp2400 is nothing short of wonderful. It even adjusts the sound levels to compensate for background noise automatically, much like the iphone.
In reality, so high performance is this 2 way radio, that it actually meets US military standard 810 C D E F and G.
Really the only negative we could find was that the design was slightly bulky plus the battery was a little heavy, however, the battery life is so good that we really don’t mind. Besides, it’s reassuring to be totally sure that you aren’t going to lose the product (you would soon notice in case you dropped it).
As an optional extra, you can even obtain a function that may interrupt an existing signal so they can deliver vital information without waiting for a message come to an end.
THE VERDICT
It really does seem as if Motorola have thought of everything for this radio. What we’ve got here is a two way radio that is pretty close to perfection. It appears to do everything you could probably want it to and, when ‘pimped out’ with all the optional extras, it will surely do a lot more besides.
There are not actually any downsides with this two way radio, it works tremendously well, is pretty much top of the line in its value range and is bang up to date technically. What more can you ask for?
